[ after the wild events of the evening, even xie lian needs a few moments to himself. he checked in briefly with san lang, and then, set out for a walk to try and clear some of the stormier thoughts in his head.
by the time he makes it out to the forest, someone else is there. hopefully she doesn't mind the interruption.
with a polite little bow: ] ...Miss Jeanne, good evening.
[ That's a mood because Jeanne is in the forest for about the same reasons. She walks with her eyes looking more upward than in front of her, and she stops when she hears his approach.
She doesn't smile, but she lets her expression soften a little. ]
Xie Lian, hello. How are you, after everything today?
he exhales, a soft huff. ] ....Troubled. To say the very least.
[ there are still so many questions that are nagging at him. so many little details, and so many big ones, too, all entrenched in that terrible gut feeling of something bad, beyond what they experienced just today. ] And yourself?
[ Those are words she's heard. Those are words she's said herself. Those are words she's experienced, but they are all here without their powers, and so she frowns. ]
Even so, that doesn't mean you should aggravate anything so soon. Someone could've helped you with this.
[ it's a little later in the day when xie lian makes his way to the docking bay to find jeanne, holding a little tray at his hip. spotting her, he's quiet for a moment, before he clears his throat to announce his presence. ]
...Miss Jeanne. [ with a small, polite bow of his head. ] Would you mind a little company?
[ The clearing of his throat is enough to get her to turn, and she smiles a little in greeting, but it doesn't come close to reaching her eyes and she knows it. ]
[ xie lian dips his head in humble thanks to that, and makes his way over, easing down to a sitting position. on the tray itself is a couple of cups of tea. ]
...You told me earlier in this week, that it would be good to have someone accompany us when we are not at our best. [ xie lian passes over the cup - it's herbal smelling, maybe a little strong, but well made. it's like one of two things he can do in a kitchen. ]
I thought perhaps we could sit and care for our injuries, together. [ injuries, physical or mental; it doesn't feel like he really has to specify, and he won't. perhaps it's both. ] If you'd like to talk, we can, but... if you just want to sit, then we can do that, too.
Jeanne offers a smile whenever she sees him although it's small and doesn't quite reach her eyes. She isn't bending because of tonight, but tonight sure was something. ]
[ xie lian has a not quite smile for jeanne, when she arrives. he's sitting, again, outside where the air is clear.
that flower crown's back in his lap, again, and he's fiddling with the petals, as he talks, his voice soft. ]
...I don't know, Miss Jeanne. [ xie lian says, quietly, eventually. an honest answer. ] I don't believe it is the best answer - I think all of us know what that may have been.
[ finding the culprit for yoshizawa - with the brutality of the way she was killed - would have been the best option. ]
Wherever he is, wherever Jeanne comes across him, she doesn't even get a moment to say a word in greeting because the dilophosaurus that's become her shoulder buddy dives for the ground.
these bubbles are - they are something. xie lian blinks, and suddenly, he is shifted into the shoes of someone else, into a world that he doesn't know, and he feels... he feels what jeanne - ruler is feeling. her strife. her ache. her desires to convince this young man, of...
Because becoming disillusioned with humans is easy, and hating humans is even easier, but continuing to love humans is hard.
it echoes with him as he blinks free of the fog of a memory, the statement resonating in his head. xie lian blinks at her, as the little dinosaur runs around at their feet; slowly, as he reorients himself, he kneels, and gently offers his hands out to the little dinosaur so it may run towards him, so he can carefully return it to jeanne. if it wants to come. darn dinosaurs.
there's a smile in his voice, even as his head is down. ]
...I know that you did not mean to share such a memory with me, and we do not have to talk about it. [ his voice is quietly appreciative, though. ] ...But I am glad, that you did, Miss Jeanne.
[ The dinosaur comes, and it wants to stay with him for a while! Jeanne doesn't mind it, and it makes her smile as it tries to climb into his vacuum of a sleeve. It's going to get lost in there, if Xie Lian lets it in. ]
We can talk about it. It's nothing I wouldn't say to anyone else.
[ Her beliefs on humankind and human nature remain strong still. ]
He is someone very young who hadn't seen much of the world yet, the boy in the memory.
[ xie lian is so relieved to see jeanne alright, after everything that happened. even if he feels sick right now, it's.. it's hard to be anything but happy.
he's holding a cup of tea in his hands that smells strongly of ginger, and he nods his head to her in greeting, then offers it forward. the smile on his face is warm and genuine.]
[ that makes him laugh, though it's humorless, and mostly tired. ]
It is not. I think in this moment, you're allowed to be relieved about anything you'd want to be. And sometimes, blessings come in small and strange packages.
[ xie lian gives her a small smile. ] Would you come sit with me for a while?
[ since finding ochako, xie lian's been noticeably absent for most of the evening. however, should jeanne just be walking, or seeking xie lian out, she may see a familiar figure clothed in all white, sitting at the end of the pier with his feet dangling over the edge.

Are you one for flower crowns, Xie Lian?

...It used to be part of my title. "The Flower Crowned Martial God." I haven't really worn one in a long time.
