[ someone has officially been consigned to one of the couches in the lounge of the inn, because someone has spent entirely too much time shuffling around and trying to do basically anything but rest with his injuries, so.
hiya, emet-selch! if you're looking for xie lian, you'll find him with a pot of tea and a couple of mugs sitting on one of the couches, quietly looking contemplative though not really saying or doing much. he's finally gotten a moment of quiet after all of the chaos today, which... well, a moment of quiet is not always the best thing! so.
he doesn't even notice his immortal former roommate coming by, unfortunately. too lost in that head of his. hi. at least he's not in bloody clothes anymore.]
[he takes a seat on the couch as well, a slight distance from him-- and, well. from what he already knows, he isn't terribly surprised to find xie lian lost in his own head.
xie lian blinks, suddenly realizing he has company, and looks at emet-selch, and then at his tea. he manages a little smile after a moment, any of that thoughtful expression disappearing from his face. ]
....mn. So it will....I’ll still drink it. [ his voice still sounds pretty rough, even a few hours later, so. every little bit helps, probably. ] ...thank you.
[nothing to thank him for at all... though now that xie lian is a little more present, he settles in, looking him over.]
Whatever you were put through seems to have taken at least something of a toll. You have been seen to? [a pause, before-] I have already dealt with one of you being stubborn about it, so I certainly hope you have been more reasonable.
anyway. he nods. he imagines emet-selch probably went with chiron? that's what it looked like. ] I have, as well as I can be. The injuries that I have can't really be bandaged, so it is nothing but time.
[ a pause, and he lifts his arm a little to show...there's a package of frozen vegetables propped up on his ribs. there's a hint of wry humor to xie lian's voice. ] ...And frozen vegetables, I suppose. [ thank you other person from another pc. ]
It was quite a curious situation, but we all came out of it alive. I suppose that's what matters.
That your group was separated into two, and that when he and Ochako came upon you-- you were in need of revival. Which was evidently a success, save for the fact that they were forced to fight you both after.
[giving xie lian another look-over:]
Something that I do not envy either of you for.
[the other immortals are Not on his list of people he would fight.]
[ that's all very correct. he nods. ] ...Truthfully, I am glad that Archer was there. He is very skilled.
When we were separated, Miss Ochako and Archer were fighting monsters. Those monsters were directly connected to Won and I, who fell unconscious when we were asked if we wanted to "defend against monsters" by two screens. We were each experiencing nightmares in real time - and the decisions we made were directly tied to the monsters they were fighting with. So, when the two of them killed the monsters...
[ it killed him and won, too. he knows emet-selch is smart; he doesn't need to elaborate. ]
Miss Ochako said that the medicine they used to revive us said it had side effects. That is correct, that it brought us back, but it was as if we had been possessed.
To have toyed with someone like you in such a way... this place truly does reduce us.
[it's more than a bit unnerving. immortals should not be forced into such things as easily as humans, nor killed so easily, as if it were a game something played with them.]
And so you fought them until you were killed, correct? Archer did say as much... [though he sighs as he continues:] He said he attempted to afford the girl more time to help, and in so doing, worsened his own state.
[ xie lian already had a fairly high opinion of archer, and by the end of this, he'd respected him even more for that. he's quiet for a moment, recalling the details, or reflecting on everything that happened. ]
...I was able to regain consciousness for a scant few seconds during the fight. I knew...I knew that I wouldn't stop unless I was killed, so I gave Miss Ochako Ruoye and asked Archer to complete the deed - they wouldn't have been able to incapacitate me.
[ quietly. ] ...I am very strong, Emet-Selch. Archer and I are quite similar in many ways, and I am truly sorry for any injuries I may have inflicted on him. But, for me to have been put up against a teenage girl is...
It is not having injured him that vexes me, it is that it sounds very much like they did not do what was necessary to begin with.
[from what archer had said-- she wanted to try to find a way to help, and so he fought longer than he otherwise might have, simply prolonging it all. or at the least, that's the read that he's gotten on it from what he knows.]
If you proved too strong to incapacitate, it should have been handled more swiftly.
[ that's about the take that xie lian expected emet-selch to have on that particular concept. he's more in line with chiron - that protecting ochako, or at least trying to do so, was a valiant thing to do, and emet-selch probably wouldn't be surprised by that take, either. ]
Death is quite different for mortals, especially a young one, than it is for us. I probably would have done the same, were our positions reversed. To take a little more pain on to attempt to protect the innocence of a pupil is something I do understand.
[ emet selch is surrounded by TWO of them. xie lian came out of this situation with a massive amount of respect for chiron, because ideologically, they seem to be quite similar, and for more reasons than one.
but, after a moment, xie lian concedes: ] However...had I been able to break free of whatever thrall was over me faster, I would have told them much of the same immediately. I certainly don't look like I am capable of what I am capable of, so in the heat of battle, it must have been somewhat surprising.

You will let it grow cold.

I did hear some of the situation from Archer-- curious seems to be a more than fair estimation of it.
[a slight pause, before:]
If you are willing to speak of it, then I would know, but given what he told me of it... I would not force you.
no subject
...I don't mind. Would you mind telling me what he told you, so I don't have to repeat myself too much?
