I'm thinking that the Xian Le family probably has heavy connections in politics and entertainment, particularly in politics. They've always been a-flushed with cash to the point of ridiculousness and have tried to make life for the people in their family and family-protected areas as easy as possible. As such Xie Lian was pretty well loved as the darling son of the family head. Xian Le makes it a goal to keep people happy, and hard work and loyalty in the family is rewarded monetarily. Getting in with Xian Le (in the past, especially) was always a pretty sweet gig.

The values of the family lean towards the graceful, honorable and intelligent over all out warfare. Xian Le frowns upon unnecessary violence (but if it's necessary, they'll carry it out with aplomb) and focuses on using their political clout and $$ to help keep things running smoothly. Think assassins more than bombers. The members of the family, particularly important ones, would be expected to maintain those graceful and honorable traditions no matter what vehicle of the family they serve in.

I'd like for his parents to have been very recently assassinated, so he's probably only been in charge for a month or two. It's a new job, and Xie Lian will be VERY inexperienced at it. But! His people have always loved him (even though he can be a bit of a strange character) and so his tenure started out pretty hopeful.

With regards to the deal, he probably is the one leading the charge to make it happen instead of wanting to think it's BS. Xie Lian (especially kind of at the point of character I'm thinking) can be really really idealistic and just wants PEACE but he also hates dealing with politics because he thinks they're asinine and don't solve obvious problems. He'll ignore a lot of long-standing alliances and/or long standing traditions if they don't fit that ultimate goal of trying to reconcile, which can lead to...yup, lots of unrest.

I don't want it to be too bad yet but definitely starting to get there. I think the stirrings of "wow xie lian sure can't fix everything wtf" should be a rising sound in the background of the family. Lots of clandestine meetings, some less clandestine going on about it. Inevitably this will probably end badly on his end because I'm going to strive to be as IC as possible (and therefore fuck this up fantastically probably.) In general I want it to be sort of an Atlas situation where he's trying to hold up approximately fourteen different problems many of which could have been avoided and starts to crack like an egg underneath the pressure.

♚ Has been training in various forms of martial arts since he was a small child, as well as with any kind of weapon he could get his hands on. He's proficient with just about anything he can pick up, from guns to throwing knives to antique swords.
♚ He absolutely has a collection of antique swords.

♚ A few months ago things in Xian Le started to go to shit.
♚ Mayor was assassinated, his loyal bodyguard left. (He doesn't begrudge him for it; they're still on decently good term but that doesn't mean it doesn't go to Absolute Shit after that.) XL starts to experience loss in more ways than he ever has before. It can't get worse!
♚ Fearing for their lives and also empty wallets, the Xie family retreated to one of their other safe houses on their side of town and continued to run the family remotely, trying to live like normal people and not obscenely old money high class high society.
♚....and then his parents were discovered and assassinated, leaving Xie Lian in charge of the entire Xian Le family at the tender age of 20.

♚ Xie Lian resumed control of the family and normal operations returned after only a brief hiccup.
♚ The murder of his family is still unsolved... but life goes on.


♚ He's an inexperienced leader who is a bit too straightforward for all of this political wheeling and dealing but wants peace above all else.
♚ Xie Lian is always trying to solve as many problems as humanly possible in the family. He's rarely at home and will absolutely help you. Really. Ignore the thirty other things on his schedule at this hour.
♚ His heart is in the people of his family, more than anything else. Guided by his moral compass as always.
♚ His most important goal as a leader is maintaining a peace both domestically and externally and he's not above being nosy ON HIS OWN instead of clandestinely.

♚ The structure of the family hasn't changed under a new leader.
